UCEED – The Ultimate 2026 Guide for Students & Parents

The UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) is a national-level entrance exam conducted for admission into B.Des programmes, primarily in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other design schools. UCEED evaluates visual, analytical, and design aptitude — emphasising thinking, observation, problem-solving, and creativity over rote memorisation.

If you are still confused about which design entrance exam suits you, read this detailed comparison guide.

What is UCEED?

UCEED is conducted annually by IIT Bombay for admission into undergraduate design programmes (mainly B.Des). It is a design-aptitude test focusing on observation, reasoning, analytical thinking, visualisation, and problem-solving — not memorisation.

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility)

• Passed or appearing in Class 12 (10+2).
• Students from any stream — Science, Commerce, or Arts.
• No mandatory subject requirement to appear for UCEED.
Note: Some institutes may have stream-specific requirements for admission.
Before choosing UCEED, it is important to understand whether design is the right career for you.

UCEED Attempt Limit

A student can appear a maximum of TWO times, and those must be in two consecutive years.

Exam Structure & Pattern
Part A (200 Marks | 57 Questions)

Numerical Answer Type (NAT) – 14 Questions
